Welcome to the Amazing Catalina Scavenger Hunt! If you are planning to rent a golf cart while on the island (cart rental is separate from the tour and at an additional cost) come play with us.
Part scavenger hunt, part city tour, the Amazing Catalina Scavenger Hunt is the ultimate combination of outdoor adventure with mobile technology. Using any smartphone with internet capabilities, players solve clues and complete challenges that lead them in and around the city of Avalon. There is no software to download or complicated process to figure out.
After renting your golf cart, (4 seat and 6 seat carts available, approximately $10 US per seat per hour), this quest starts out from the center of Avalon and takes you among the island's famous landmarks while also giving you a taste of its lesser-known treasures. Your Quest route will take you through the foothills and past great harbor lookouts as you locate and complete your challenges. Then, after one hour, drop off your cart and continue your Quest. This version visits several of the same sights as the walking tour but has different stops as well.
The scoring for your Quest is determined based on total points earned and the time to completion. The Quest has 21 urban location clues or quest challenges along the game route. A total of 30 possible points are available for each location or quest challenge. The game keeps track of your points and score, posting your final score on the leader board for Catalina.
Hints are available to ensure that teams stay on track and never get stumped. Two types of hints are provided:
Location hints help you find a location or locate a thing.
Challenge hints help you solve the challenge, riddle or clue.
If a question is simply too difficult and the team wants to move on, a skip it button is provided. If the skip it is used, no points are awarded for that question but the answer is displayed so that the team can move on.
Bonus questions are also provided along the route to help increase your point total.
Throughout each quest, historical information and other interesting facts are presented to the game players as bits of urban questology.
Please Note: The tour does not include the golf cart, it is just to reserve the tour with the use of one. If you are planning to rent a golf cart while on the island, please note that the cart rental is separate from the tour and is available at an additional cost.
